My first attempt at a personal blog

Yes, I do realize that I am jumping on the bandwagon a bit late.  After all, sites like Blogger have been around since 1999 and as of December 2007, there were already more than 120 million blogs on the web.  I figure there is room for one more.

I posted a Tweet asking my followers if they thought if I should start a blog. I wondered if I was “interesting enough”.  Boris Mann’s answer was much appreciated: “Just start. Interesting is in the eye of the beholder – your blog is for you, not them.”

With thoughts in mind, I decided that “just starting” would be a great option.  Will people end up reading it?  Who knows? But I do know that it will achieve some of the following objectives for me:

  1. Give me more control of my personal image on the web. Much of the content about me online is published by someone else.  This is an opportunity to develop content that is not only about me but by me.
  2. Give me more experience with social media. I’ve been doing some social media projects with the companies that I have been working.  This will give me an opportunity to improve those skills and allow me to contribute more to those projects.
  3. Improve my writing. I’ve always been a so-so writer, but I’ve never been tremendous at it.  This is an opportunity to write more and become better at it.
  4. Share my experiences and thoughts with people that might care. As I’ve already established, I don’t know if anyone is interested in reading about me, but just in case, they now have a great way to stalk me!

To any readers who want to comment: why do you blog?
